It is very important for people to know and understand events that are happening everyday locally, nationally, and globally. You are required to select two current event articles from news sources listed below (see below). The dates of the article must be between 2017 and 2022. The assignment consists of reading 2 articles and identifying the phases of the HUMINT Threat to local, national, or global events. For example, the War in Ukraine, the cyber-attack on Verizon, the threat of emerging pandemic, etc.
The purpose of this assignment is to (1) increase your ability to research current issues in the world, (2) increase your understanding of a particular area (your choice) in the world of traditional and nontraditional threats, and (3) be able to critically evaluate news articles regarding issues.
- Planning and direction – purposes and scope of the activity.
- Collection and Processing – evaluate data quantity and quality of the threat (verify the scope of your sources). Make sure you identify credible sources and not false positives.
- Analysis – this is a HUMINT process that will contextualize the threat through application of known structural data or fusing of data. Start by look at the type of data, processes, and the threat risk. How will the threat impact operations? What systems, organizations, environments, processes will be impacted? What will be the effects of the impact? What options are available to mitigate? Is it mitigatable? If so, how? If not, why?
- Production – once your analysis is developed, arrange into a graphical report (at list 1 chart, table) to illustrate your data to identify the most meaningful information drove logical conclusions from the data and analysis. Here you will outline courses of actions and recommendations utilizing decision trees and procedures to initiate response, remediation, and management.
- Dissemination – distribution of your data to drive results and address the threat (threat can be fraud, security, attacks, health, environmental, political, etc.). Identify who are the stakeholders, from leadership to risk down to tertiary level (3rd party).
